Routine appointments
To request a routine appointment:

- visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6.30pm
Routine appointments may be scheduled for up to 6 weeks in advance.
Nursing appointments are available for blood tests, dressings, smear tests, ECGs, BP checks requested by a doctor and injections. These can be booked by phone.
If you need to cancel an appointment, please give plenty of notice so we can offer the appointment to another patient. We have a voicemailbox, option 1 which you can select as soon as your call is answered, where you can leave a message to cancel the appointment. Please remember to leave your name and the date and time of the appointment. Appointments cancelled within one hour of the appointment time will be marked as a DNA (did not attend).
Urgent appointments
To request an urgent ‘on the day’ appointment:
- use our online request form (eConsult). The request will be reviewed by an appropriate clinician and assessed on the medical need.
- phone us on 01929 553444, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 10.30am for a morning appointment and between 14:00 and 16:00 for an afternoon appointment.
Cancelling your appointment
Call 01929 553444 and select option 1 to leave a message at any time. If your appointment is within the next 24 hours, please speak to a member of the reception team so that we can offer the appointment to someone else.
Consult with a Doctor online
You can request an appointment using our Online request form (eConsult).
All patient contacts are triaged by a clinician and we aim to respond within 48 hours. This may be by text, email or telephone. You may be given advice, informed that there is a prescription available, referred to another service, or offered a routine or same day appointment, depending on your need.
Triage is the action of deciding the order of treatment of patients. At Wareham Surgery we ask you to provide us with some basic information so that we can carry this out. All problems are triaged by a clinician usually on the same day or within 48 hours. The clinician decides who should contact the patient, when, and how (whether by telephone or a face to face consultation), and the necessary arrangements are made.
Extended access
We offer Extended Access appointments from 7:30am on Tuesday mornings. There are for blood tests and/or nursing appointments for patients who have difficulty attending during normal hours.
To request an extended access appointment:
- use our online request form (eConsult)
- phone us on 01929 553444, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6.30pm
- visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6.30pm
Home visits
Home visits are normally for those who are housebound. Home visits can be requested for the same day, if they are requested by 10.30am, by telephoning 01929 553444.
Please state why you need a visit to help us work out who will need to be seen more urgently during the day. Please also give your address and telephone number. If you are requesting a visit for another person, please provide your name and contact details.
Visits are made at the doctor’s discretion on grounds of clinical need and you may be offered an appointment at the surgery if the doctor feels this is more appropriate. You may be visited by another healthcare professional, e.g. community matron or emergency care practitioner (ECP), as appropriate, it may not always be a GP. It will be difficult to predict a time for the visit.
Routine home visit requests will be triaged by the triage team and you will be contacted and advised about when the visit will take place.
Lack of transport is not a reason for a home visit.
