Patients may book an appointment by telephone, by attending the surgery or by completing an eConsult form. With eConsult, there are templates for various conditions and symptoms that gather the information required by the clinician to judge whether you need to be seen face to face or can be offered other forms of treatment. Electronic methods ensure our phone lines are available for patients who do not have access to the internet.
All patient contacts are triaged by a clinician and we aim to respond within 48 hours. This may be by text, email or telephone. You may be given advice, informed that there is a prescription available, referred to another service, or offered a routine or same day appointment, depending on your need. Routine appointments may be scheduled for weeks in advance.
Triage is the action of deciding the order of treatment of patients. At Wareham Surgery we ask you to provide us with some basic information so that we can carry this out. All problems are triaged by a clinician usually on the same day or within 48 hours. The clinician decides who should contact the patient, when, and how (whether by telephone or a face to face consultation), and the necessary arrangements are made.
Nursing appointments are available for blood tests, dressings, smear tests, ECGs, BP checks requested by a doctor and injections. These can be booked by phone.
