Due to Covid19, patients are not able to make an appointment with a doctor without being triaged. Our preferred method of contact for new problems is via eConsult. There are templates for various conditions and symptoms that gather the information required by the clinician to judge whether you need to be seen face to face or can be offered other forms of treatment. Electronic methods ensure our phone lines are available for patients who do not have access to the internet.
All patient contacts are triaged by a clinician and we aim to respond within 48 hours. This may be by text, email or telephone. You may be given advice, informed that there is a prescription available, referred to another service, or offered a routine or same day appointment, depending on your need. Routine appointments may be scheduled for weeks in advance.
Triage is the action of deciding the order of treatment of patients. At Wareham Surgery we ask you to provide us with some basic information so that we can carry this out. All problems are triaged by a clinician usually on the same day or within 48 hours. The clinician decides who should contact the patient, when, and how (whether by telephone or a face to face consultation), and the necessary arrangements are made.
Nursing appointments are available for blood tests, dressings, smear tests, ECGs, BP checks requested by a doctor and injections. These can be booked by phone.
Our capacity to see patients face to face has dropped due to the necessity to don and doff Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and to thoroughly disinfect surfaces between patients.
When attending a booked appointment, please do not come before the appointment time to avoid unnecessary contact with other patients. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing measures. Please do not attend if you or a member of your household has any signs or symptoms of Covid19.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these challenging times.
